Rehabilitation

 Up

Our rehabilitation specialists are here to help.

It's easy to adjust to a new pair of glasses. It may only take a day or two. Getting used to an electronic visual aid may take a little longer. It's like breaking in a new pair of shoes.

Our approach is multidisciplinary. Eye doctors, occupational therapists, and other patients who act as instructors. The team's goal is to restore reading, writing, TV, hobbies, and other activities of daily living. Dr. Hearing likes to say that he sells independence!

For example, a typical Jordy patient receives three to ten half-hour one-on-one personal guidance on how best to use the device. They pass on the lessons learned from their experience.

Meet some of our instructors

George and Marion Hall

George and Marion Hall are instructors in the use of high technology low vision devices.  In 1992 George had a drastic loss of vision due to macular degeneration and was told by his doctor that nothing could be done.  At this time Johns Hopkins Eye Center and Visionics Corp. were developing a device called LVES (Low Vision Enhancement System).

LVES became available in 1995.  George was the first person in Florida to use this vision aid and soon became interested in helping others to be able to see.  Since then they have worked with Dr. Hearing’s patients.

Dr. Hearing feels that the best way to help people to learn how to use their equipment is in their own environment, taught by a person who is visually handicapped and uses the devices.

In 1997 George received the new auto focus telescopic glasses by Ocutech.  By the end of 2003, 197 people have received their training with these glasses from George and Marion.

Since 1999, when the Jordy by Enhanced Vision Systems came on the market, the Halls have trained 137 people. George has appeared with the devices on Orlando TV and also on CBS Health Watch on the Internet.
