From time to time, Dr. Hearing offers free low vision seminars. They are held in various cities on Florida's east coast. Please check here often to see when Dr. Hearing and other medical experts may be reviewing the status of low vision remedies in your area. Seminars include show-and-tell of latest vision aids.

Speakers come from various related medical and scientific disciplines. For example, at the March 2006 seminar the attendees heard from Joe Dvorak, PhD, lead technologist for Motorola's wearable device development; Joe Fontenot, MD, a visually impaired heart specialist who now concentrates on vision rehabilitation; Kevin Kelly, MD, retinal specialist at Visual Health.  Allen Preston, president of West Palm Beach Lions Club spoke about Striving with Low Vision.

Following the one-hour seminar, Actor LeVar Burton, Geordi La Forge of Star Trek fame read the book Where the sidewalk ends with legally blind Cissy Davis, an 8-year-old who just received a donated Jordy vision-assist device from Rotary's Jupiter Tequesta Sunrise Angel Donor Program.

  The fundraising event, where Jordy meets Geordi, benefited the LeVar Burton Center for Vision Enhancing Technologies. About $25,000 was raised for the cause.
